
I worked here in 1977 as a mason tender. Mixing cement by hand and carrying it out to the line was hard work, but it paid
well. This place was out on the desert close to the Mexican border. Temperatures could get up to 105 degrees or more. And
I didn't even work there in the summer! The only way to deal with the oppressive heat of this place was to get out to the
work site at 4 AM- and then quit at 11 AM when the sun would start to get intense. I have always liked the desert and feel
drawn to its primitive solitude and quiet.
