Here's Lanzarote, one of the 7 islands that comprise the archipelago of the
Canary Islands off the coast of West Africa. At the time these photos were taken in 1983, Lanzerote was, unlike most of the
islands, undeveloped. I rented a car for 40 bucks and spent two days driving on the dusty roads and through the sleepy villages
of Lanzerote. The Canary Islands belong to Spain and the language is, naturally enough, Spanish.

Lanzarote is composed of black volcanic ash, and some of the scenery is bleak. Tobacco grown
in this black volcanic ash makes the best tasting cigatettes I have ever smoked. I don't smoke anymore, but if I did, I would
seek out a cigarette that I actually enjoy.
